Non-Pharmaceutical Pain Management

Pain management: to augment or replace pharmaceutical solutions, hypnosis is a powerful tool to shift the way we relate to physical pain. The Buddhists, among others, speak of the difference between pain and suffering. Suffering happens when anxiety and despair are added to physical pain, often intensifying the pain. Hypnosis can channel the power of the conscious mind to create a connection with the physical pain that does not include anxiety or despair. It cannot only reduce the overhead of anxiety and despair, but also seems to moderate the pain signals sent to the brain. Part of the client’s experience is a relaxation of all the energy spent in resisting the pain.

Do not believe that sheer suffering teaches.
If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise,
since everyone suffers.
To suffering must be added mourning,
understanding, patience, love, openness,
and a willingness to remain vulnerable.
